Bandera Twin PET® – High-Capacity PET Recycling Extruder
High Capacity and Low IV Loss in PET Recycling
Bandera Twin PET® is a high-capacity PET recycling extruder developed to convert post-consumer (PCR) and post-industrial (PIR) PET waste into high-quality recycled pellets.
The core of the system is a co-rotating twin-screw extruder with a 52D length-to-diameter ratio, based on Bandera's patented HVTSE® (Highly Vented Twin Screw Extruder) technology.
HVTSE® technology uses high-vacuum degassing capacity to provide more controlled thermal and mechanical processing of PET while helping preserve the polymer chains.
Dryerless PET Recycling Technology
One of the key features of Twin PET® is its ability to process PET flakes without requiring pre-treatment processes such as pre-drying or densification.
The low filling level inside the extrusion chamber and the high degassing capacity of HVTSE® expose a larger surface area of the material to the vacuum effect.
This configuration provides an advantage for the effective removal of moisture and volatile components during the PET recycling process.
Process Without Pre-Drying or Densification
- Process without pre-drying of PET flakes
- Operation without densification pre-treatment
- High-vacuum degassing
- Low extrusion pressure
- Low shear stress
- Optimized energy consumption
Bandera reports specific energy consumption of up to 0.21 kWh/kg for Twin PET®, excluding the chiller and material conveying systems.
Preservation of PET IV Value
One of the key process parameters in PET recycling is preserving the polymer's Intrinsic Viscosity (IV) value as much as possible.
The low shear stress and controlled process structure of HVTSE® technology used in Twin PET® help preserve the integrity of the polymer chains. This approach is intended to reduce IV loss that may occur during extrusion.
Reduced Risk of Yellowing
Avoiding high-temperature pre-treatment processes such as densification or drying helps prevent unnecessary thermal load on PET flakes.
Bandera positions Twin PET® technology with the objective of minimum yellowing. This approach is important for preserving the natural appearance of recycled PET and reducing the need for color-correcting additives.
High Capacity up to 5,000 kg/h
Twin PET® has been developed for high-capacity PET recycling applications.
The Bandera Twin PET® product family includes models capable of reaching production capacities of up to 5,000 kg/h with a single extruder.
Twin PET® Models

Actual capacity is determined according to PET flake quality, moisture, contamination, IV value, material source and line configuration.
Processing Different PET Waste Sources
Twin PET® is a flexible recycling solution designed not only for PET bottle flakes but also for processing different PCR and PIR sources.
Processable PET Waste
- PET bottle flakes – PCR
- PET tray flakes – PCR
- PET flat film waste – PIR
- PET skeleton waste – PIR
- PET powder and fines – PCR
- PET washing plant waste – PCR
- Industrial PET production waste
This material flexibility enables PET waste obtained from different sources to be processed within the same recycling infrastructure.
Bottle-to-Bottle PET Recycling
Twin PET® can also be used as part of a Bottle-to-Bottle recycling chain with the appropriate process infrastructure.
Bandera states that HVTSE® extruder technology can be used together with Polymetrix SSP systems, providing a solution for obtaining bottle-grade PET through a solid-state post-polycondensation (SSP) process after extrusion.
Within this configuration:
PET Bottle Flakes → Twin PET® / HVTSE® → PET Pellets → SSP → Bottle Grade PET
a recycling chain can be established.
During the HVTSE® extrusion stage, decontamination and minimum yellowing are targeted, while the SSP stage is used to bring PET to bottle-grade level.
Flexible PET Recycling for PCR and PIR
Twin PET® can be used for processing both Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) and Post-Industrial Recycled (PIR) PET sources.
These can include:
- PET bottle flakes
- PET tray flakes
- PET film production waste
- PET skeleton
- PET fines
- PET washing plant waste
This flexibility enables PET recycling facilities to operate with different raw material sources.
Bandera's Experience in PET Technology
According to Bandera's official product information, the company has completed more than 300 PET flake treatment plant installations worldwide.
This experience has provided an important foundation for the development of PET flake processing technologies and has supported the development of high-capacity recycling processes with Twin PET®.
